DORA: What's my stomach doing?
WENDELL: Why, Dora, I'd recognize the lovely sound of borborygmus, anywhere!
DORA: Say what?
WENDELL: That growling, gurgling sound is borborygmus! It's the sound of gas, mushed up food, and digestive fluids being sloshed and pushed around in your stomach and intestines.
DORA: BBBBBBBBBRGMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. Sorry again....
WENDELL: That one was much more high-pitched than the last one.
Probably chewed up food being pushed through the tube under high pressure. Now that's heavy-duty muscle activity!
DORA: How do I make my stomach gurgle?
Frankly, Wendell, I'm beat. I don't think I have the energy to push food around inside!
WENDELL: Wow, hold on, Dora! This isn't something you think about. Your brain controls those muscles automatically.
DORA: Good, because I'm starved. What about a burger? I could eat a ton of them. BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRMMMM!!!
WENDELL: There goes your stomach and those digestive juices
sloshing around again. We'll get you a hamburger. But I doubt
you'll eat a ton of them. In your brain, you've got the equivalent of a thermostat. It's called an appestat -- or appetite center -- and it will tell you when you feel full!
DORA: Thank goodness!
